Upcoming models: The KIA EV2 (concept) is expected to launch by late 2024 or early 2025, followed by the EV4 in 2026. These models aim to drive mass adoption of electric vehicles (EVs);
Early market advantage: Kia America COO Steve Center states, "We are ahead of most, and we are trying to rush out ahead because our technology will be more evolved". He highlights that the EV9 already features a third-generation battery;
Industry competition: While Kia is focusing on affordable EVs, the landscape is challenging. Tesla's shift away from low-cost models towards robot axis, alongside the growing presence of Chinese automakers like BYD and NIO, poses potential threats.
Future goals: Kia plans to have eight EVs in the U.S. by 2029, with EVs expected to comprise over half of global sales by 2030. center mentions, "When you are building affordable EVs in the U.S., the rebate will appeal more to households with less income".
Tax credits: The center explains that the $7,500 federal EV tax credit is crucial for making EVs more appealing, stating, "It's meant to help the manufacturers bridge the transition [to EVs] in the beginning and create a certain amount of sales momentum while we are building our supply chains".
A fresh start: Center asserts. "Just because you are great at something else doesn't mean you are going to be great at EVs". He emphasizes that Kia's commitment to a swift EV rollout will allow them to secure loyal customers for their second and third EVs while other companies lag.

I hope they don’t rush to release new models and sacrifice quality in the process. This looks a lot like the upcoming Rivian R2 by the way.
